A Hudson owner thats not online wants to know if there is a substitute fuel pump for his Hornet. I use Electric pumps so dont know but heard 4cyl Pinto pump was utilized in the past, but wonfered if there is another choice. I did a Search but only Vapor Lock appeared.

Thanks in advance

  •  Ol racer, A few years ago some folks went to use Ford Pinto fuel pumps. They worked OK for a while but then they would fail. Possibly to to pressure difference or the fact the Pinto was only 4 cylinders vs. Hudson's 6 cylinders needing more fuel . I really don't know. A decent rebuilt Hudson mechanical fuel pump with current materials should work just fine for his needs.

Many guys use the AMC Airtex 6737 (Or equivalent) for 232 or 258, 6 cyl. The inlet fitting is at a bit different angle.

Would he consider the original type pump?

I believe Dale Cooper has rebuilt pumps, 1934-58.  $90 for standard, $110 for dual action.

I've used an AMC fuel pump that I think fit a 1980's model Cordoba for years.  It works fine.

Do you have a part number.

The 1980's Cordoba could be had with three different engines: 225 slant 6, 318 V8, and 360 V8.
Which engine fuel pump are you using?
What about gasket thickness with Cordoba fuel pump?

    Thanks for the information.

Buy a diaphragm from 'Then and Now' for less than 10 bucks and fix your old one.  Nothing in there except the diaphragm and a couple of phonolic poppets.  Make sure you clean the screen.  A dirty one will increase the vacuum and cause vapor lock.

The double ones are more complicated but you don't need them.  If you want a wiper wipe just let up a little.

  • Josh where do you find the web site for "Then & Now"?

    Lee,
I have two old boxes that the fuel pumps came in from NAPA and the number on one is M6737 and the other is 6737.  As far as spacers are concerned, I used the old spacers that came with original fuel pump and now since I have had the engine rebuilt, I am using the spacers that came with Dale Coopers engine rebuild kit.

    Hope this helps.

Thank You for all the helpful Information regarding a replacement fuel pump. There are some options to choose from an AMC pump to replacing the original diaphram. Perhaps NAPA may still have one in a Warehouse somewhere..
Incidently, Note that the old NAPA # is the same as the AMC 232 & 258 6 Cyl......

Dale Cooper also has factory remanufactured fuel pumps in single action @ $ 90.00 Exch, or also has double action (with vacuum booster).
