  • My '53 doors have to be slammed almost all the time because of weather stripping durometer being too high. That is what happens when people making the Hudson rubber stuff get things a little too firm. No choice but to slam. When the door is against the rubber and you have to push more to get the latch to set and you can't push but have to slam to get the door latch to go further to lock then the rubber is too stiff.  BUT, very glad to have all new rubber all over the car.

Seems like 3% of the car is rubber stuff--anyway, a lot of funds!!

So slam it and SMILE , unless you don't have new stiff rubber ?

Might try adjusting the door latch striker.

Ray,most likely answer is YES. The rubber on 54 is on the door so make sure the aft door rubber is properly located.

Maybe an anger issue. :))   Ray, see if there is a difference closing them with the windows up verses down. Window adjustment might be an issue with a Hollywood hardtop. Hardtops also have an adjustment cable inside the doors to keep them squared up.Best to read up and follow the factory steps to adjust as you don't want to slam them and cause cracks in the sheet metal.

Adjustment does not work--have worked 48 hours on that !!! Rubber is too stiff and doors bounce off it. I am talking about ALL doors, not just one.  Trunk rubber is fine. Wouldn't you think that if the rubber is too 'strong' you would have to slam the doors to reach the upward latch point of the door latch? Thought he might have stiff rubber like I do.

Richard I used to have the rubber from the known vendors. At the recommendation of Russ Maas I bought rubber from McMaster Carr. This rubber is the 3 change and it works great. The rubber in the leading edge was found at Home Depot. All doors close properly without slamming and seal well.

ALL rubber was on the car when I bought it--ALL rubber is from Hudson dealers, NOT McMaster- or Ace, or anywhere else. This car probably has $3000. worth of rubber on it !!!! Tks~~

Just so I said it, I've seen Press Kale fix hard shutting stepdown doors on several occasions with nothing more than a screw driver at club events. 54's have a much improved latch and striker from the 53 and earlier cars.

Thank you all for your posts.  Our Hollywood is just about finished. We have a friend that is a good photografer.
She said she will take pictures till the sun looses all its power. I will send them to this site.  Ray

Press adjusted the strikers on my 52 Hornet that already had new rubber when I bought it. Nice improvement. Still not like new cars but I do not have to slam doors now. But rubber is not as soft as new car either. A lot of good suggestions mentioned. I've often thought about adapting new car soft rubber to my 47 Hudson PU doors some day after I get it back on the road.

Also, Vic Zamora has great new window channels that are easy to install and keep windows from rattling. He is in the Hudson Club Roster.
