Jet owner - question re oil pressure switch

Hi all. The following question is from a NZHET memmebr not currently on the forum. I hope someone can answer his question.

We are in the final throws of re-installing a rebuilt engine (202) in our 1954 JetLiner - right hand drive. The engine has been fitted into the engine bay with the inlet and exhaust manifolds fitted. We've now discovered that we should have installed the oil pressure switch sooner. Can someone tell us what size the drilling is in the block for the oil pressure switch as it is now difficult to access it. It is obviously larger than the thread on the oil pressure switch so a reducing bush will be required. Thanks, David

  • David,

The port in the block is 1/4 NPT (NOT BSP!) and the original switch is male 1/8 NPT (again, NOT BSP). Hudson used a 1/4 NPT X 1/8 NPT bushing to adapt a 1/8 female NPT switch to the port on the Jets. (confirmed by looking at two of them here).  If you don't have a switch, there are 1/4 FNPT units available so that it can be threaded directly into the block port without employment of a 1/4 X 1/8 bushing.

Getting a hand in there on a RHD car could be a nasty challenge but I'm sure you can find a kid with little hands to do it. Keep everything clean since that port leads directly into the oil gallery.

Frank, your info was just what was needed and the Jet is nearer to being back on the road. He emailed me back with this. One grateful Jet owner.

I checked the dimensions of the fittings noted below on the internet and
confirmed that they were exactly what I had. Problem solved and switch is now
installed! I managed to get my are arm down the side of the engine from the
front as I haven't installed the radiator or connected the exhaust to the
    manifold. Thanks once again.

  • You are certainly welcome. I had the luxury of having two unmolested Jets here to look at, one with a twin H set-up, one without, so I could be reasonably certain I was giving you correct info.
