Replacing Front Stabilizer Bushings on 1949 Hudson

I am trying to replace the front Stabilizer/Sway Bar bushings on my 1949 Hudson. Unlike modern cars, which have split bushings, the Hudson bushings are solid. This makes installing them difficult. I press off the old bushings, but this caused them to crack. So I don’t think this method would work to install them. Does anyone have any good ways or ideas on how to install the solid front Stabilizer/Sway Bar bushings?

You must be removing the bushings that are in the 'brackets' that are fastened to the frame, not the link bushings.

most all after market bushings are split and come with a new 'bracket'.

If they are solid, then you might want to split on the side, as I say, all aftermarket bushings ARE split. You can't see the split when installed nor does it matter to operation ???

But, wait on others to comment !!!!! There may be another correct way~

Just buy the aftermarket bushings. Easier to install and poly bushings will be a improvement over original bushings.

I used the same one on my 40 pick up they work fine going on and was told they are much quieter when driving

I believe all the 40's and 50's Hudson have the same 3/4" diameter bars.

OK I have found the method to install the non split Stabilizer/Sway Bar bushings. The trick is to put them in boiling water to get them really warm and then remove them from water. Put some rubber lube like dish soap in the bore and they will press on by hand with a little muscle.  I got this from an auto shop teacher.
