'49 intake/exhaust manifold reinstall....

Is it my bad back or is trying to reinstall the manifolds using bolts close to impossible. Just noticed that the Shop Manuel says to replace 14 nuts and retainers, does this mean it had studs originally? If so, how long should they be?
Thanks

Thanks Ken, I was using bolts because that was what was in mine.
Thanks0 -
Agree with Ken, studs were stock on all.0

How many studs go into the water jacket?
The engine was drained but I'm sure a couple at least.
Does anyone know which ones?
Also, I had three different size bolts, how many of the studs are different ?0 -
I recall all studs same length. Assume any threaded holes without a bottom go into jacket. Doesn't much matter, because you should use a high temp antiseize such as copper on each stud any way- makes disassembly much easier. If you use aftermarket exhaust headers, beware any discrepancy in the thickness of the intake and exhaust flange, and correct with offset washers or by grinding the cross retainers on one end.0

Does this beer make me look fatter?
No. It just makes the car look skinnier.0 -

Thanks for the information. I need one stud. My engine has one bolt and it had to be right in the middle of bottom row under manifold where stud should have been.
