I am in need of a straight 8 engine for my '33 Terraplane. I would prefer the correct year 33, but would also use a 34-35 Hudson 8...my steering wheel may be beyond repair,so I'll need one of those also... .Also need a rechromable front bumper, this is the one with the dip in the center and angled ends. Looking for the small plated hood door pulls used on the 8 cylinder hoods.
I am in upstate NY, and I will be at Hershey. I am hoping someone has these parts, this Terraplane needs to be on the road again after 50 plus years... and I DO have parts to trade!!

There were two front bumpers.  One with the angle ends as you mention.  Another with squared ends.  Guessing there were two different suppliers to Hudson for these during the model year.  Suggest you should be happy to find either one as both are hen's teeth.

When you're at Hershey, be sure to stop at the Hudson club booth in the Red Field and post your needs on the bulletin board.  You never know when someone with a straight eight might wander by and see it.

I think Tom B. also cast the hood door pulls in the past, you might check with him.

I have maybe 4 hood door handles and new springs which I had wound. Just a small part of your needs.

    33ET8conv,

You mention also being willing to use a '34 or '35 8, but what about a '36 to '47?

The '48 and newer 8s are wider at the rear part of the engine than the earlier engines.  Lee Cherry has an 8 from a step-down in his '34 Hudson, but he mentioned that he had to do something to keep the engine from touching the steering arm.

  • I want to be able to use the original cylinder head, and the later 8s would Also require more mods, including moving the radiator.

If you use the original head and waterpump on a later 8 you won't have to mod the car I'm told. Talk to Roy M., he has done this before.
