step down door hinges
i´m a new and proud owner of a 1952 Hudson Hornet club coupe with the "miracle" H power and Hydramatic drive...The car sat for a really long time. In the next weeks i will begin with the restoration work. The car has sagging/hanging doors. The problems are the door hinges. So my question: Are there new door hinges available or has anyone nos parts or a really good, usable set of hinges. Or has anyone experience with rebuilding them? Are the door hinge pins available?
Thank you so far, Marco

Marco, congratulations on your 'new' Hudson. You may be able to find good used hinges, if you're lucky, but there are no reproductions available as far as I know.
When I rebuilt my hinges for my '49 sedan, I was able to use old Hudson engine valves for all replacement pins with the exception of the top front hinge, which has a larger pin than all of the rest. The valves had to be cut down in a lathe, and a matching hole reamed through the hinge leaves. For the top front, I bought a hardened pin that was large enough, and reamed a matching hole for that as well. After taking my time to re-align/re-adjust the doors as good as I could, and torqueing the various screws holding it all together, I'm proud to say my doors close with only a touch, and no longer require 'slamming' at all. Good Luck with your coupe!

The hinges for the 4dr sedan and 2 dr are the same. The 2 door cars have a reinforcement welded to the top of the door opening level with the fender top. Check the hinge mounts and the vertical metal making up the hinge mounting surfaces for cracks. Repair before hanging your door.0

Hi Marco, is this 52 Lester's former car? I wanted to see the car when the ad dissapeared.Nice man to talk to.
Are you from Ontario? I'm near Sherbrooke, Québec. I will check for the hinges. Nice car, and I rember the interior looked gorgeous from the pictures at the time. Good Luck! And welcome on that forum.Michel
P.S. May I suggest, you get in touch with the Ontario Chapter from the HET Club? Kim Barton is the president form that chapter in Ontario. There is a large group of Hudson owners there.

Wow, thanks for the infos...checked the hinge mounts...seems all o.k. The lower hinge (passengers side) seems to be repaired (welded) in the past. So perhaps it would be the easiest way for me to do an exchange. Has anybody a pair of good, usable door hinges out there? And hey Michel...yes it´s Lester´s former car. So probably you know that it was sitting more than 35 years in his garage without seeing the streets...i´m not from Ontario. I´m living in Germany.I bought the car from Lester and shipped it to Germany.
I want to bring the car back to the road...Hudson parts are rare...even more in Germany. So i would be more than happy to get a little help from overseas.

Thinking out of the box!I know this may sound strange to some of you but I've been thinking about all of my well worn, abnormally rusty old door hinges that I've had to rework. I was thinking, why not have someone that is brave enough to cough up a set of OEM hinges and have them 3-D Printed. It would be an exact working copy of the original that could be manufactured multiple times for all who were in need of "perfect" Hudson hinges. In fact you could build up a reserve of them for future use. It would also be just as strong or maybe even stronger than the originals. The owner of the original OEM hinges would get them back with no damage to them since the procedure is non-invasive. If an OEM set is not available, then someone with 3-D computer skills could draw up a set complete with the correct tolerances. By doing this, the file could also be saved for future use. TaDa!Anyway, just a thought.Peace,Chaz0

take a look at the lower door hinge (passengers side). No Hudson driver wants it on his car. Am i right? Maybe an option for a "ratrodder".Perhaps for a Chevy or a Ford.....;)0

Actually that hinge looks like most do. If the hinge is not rusted so integrity is compromised, it should be ok0
