Looking for help, a neighbor of mine has a 1931 Essex super six, I'm gonna be working on it to get it running. The engine was rebuilt by a previous owner and appears that it was never fully assembled back together due to missing or misplaced parts. Especially on the carb side of engine. Am looking for a good picture of the carb side of engine so I can tell what is missing. Any help is appreciated.

Nick, if your neighbor is a member of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, he has full privileges at their website.  The website contains a library of downloadable manuals, one of which is the 1931 Essex parts book.  This does contain some illustrations and also has a listing of every part in the car.  Members of the HET can register to use the website at no charge.  There is a guest membership (free) but I'm not sure whether it gives you the ability to download the manuals.  You could go to the website, sign up for the free web membership, and find out!  http://www.hetclub.org/

Meanwhile, where are you located?  You might list that here.  Possibly, one of the forum members who owns a '31 Essex, might live within driving distance of you.  He could leave a message her, and possibly would be willing to let you come over and take photos and notes of his engine.  Nuthin' like the real deal to show you what things are s'pose' to look like!

  • I'm located in southern Maryland, an don't think he is a member of HET, he only recently got this vehicle and not sure if he is keeping it or just got it for an investment. He does have some manuals but doesn't exactly have good pics of the carberator area and linkage.

Well, we have a Hudson club chapter in this area (Maryland, Northern Virginia, Delaware), though unfortunately none of our members has a '31 Essex for you to look at.  The national HET Club is a good resource for finding parts and information, though (this forum and a completely different one, are both run by the HET).  So the owner might want to consider joining, if only for a year, in order to make some contacts so he can buy the necessary parts.  The club magazine has an advertising section with lots of ads for parts, and there are various people in the Club who specialize in buying and selling the older parts.

Nick,   There is a 1931 Essex on E-Bay now,  from Unique Motor cars, Mankato MN.
Has many pics including the area your friend needs to see.

    Here's a link to the auction.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bentley-Other-Sedan-/321905445836?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4af30f4bcc:g:KFAAAOSwT5tWMVhG&item=321905445836

You might want to download those photos fairly soon, because they may no longer be available when the auction ends!

  • Thank you gentlemen, that helps somewhat.
