28 Essex Roof

Hi All,

Please can someone help, I am in need of a wooden roof frame pattern/template for my 28 Essex Super 6.
A previous owner of my car re-framed the roof and made a "bags" of it, it is currently about two inches thick over the windshield.
See my profile photo.
Does any one have a template or could someone supply dimensions on a sketch of the framing from old timbers they have replaced?

Any help/advise appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

    Hi Steve

Maybe the attached could be of use to you?
  • Thanks very much for the sketch ernie28 that is helpfull.

I am also looking for the profile/section through of the frame above the windshield, its junction in the corners above the A post where it meets the side rails and the profile of the side rails to get an idea of where they start tapering down their length towards the A post (if that makes sense)?

    Thanks

  • Paul thanks a lot.

If you find more photos, please post them.

If anyone has sectional dimensions that would be helpful.

  • Hi All,

What was or is the best species of wood to use on the roof rails?

I know that cars built in the UK during the 20's & 30's use English Ash as it was strong yet flexible.

Would Hudson have used American Ash?

    Thanks

I believe ash was used here in the States as well.  I guess "ash", in the U.S., means "American Ash".  Never thought about it!
  • Hi Jon B,

Thanks for that, I guess that's what I was expecting to hear.

    Regards
