Other end is the original engine (1938 Hudson 212 flathead), with what appears to be an original, modified exhaust manifold. Haven't actually seen it in person in the vehicle - just some old photos, years ago, before restoration work and just after Dave bought the car.
He was curious about it (and still is). There was some thought that it might be among those cars that were at the Indy 500 - a '38 Hudson 112 convertible was the Pace Car that year. However from the serial number of the car, it doesn't look like it was built in time for that event. That, and a few other indications point toward the car having been raced, or possibly a very early 'street rod' modification (?)...

Remember, this is the odd 112 that had all of the racing/speed modifications done to it "back in the day". If I remember right, it had a stock manifold that had been altered to allow the extra pipe to be fitted to the manifold. It was our contention that this car was probably one of the very ones used as a Pace Car at Indy, which was the only year a Hudson served in that capacity. Very unique car in which Dave is really giving it his best effort quality-wise. This is also his 2nd re-paint due to QC first time around.
Great job, Dave! Thanks for sending the pics and look forward to meeting up with you in Chattanooga.0 -
I had forgotten about the serial number discrepancy.0

Flawless workmanship... Another Hudson far better than it when new...

Please help if you can - Dave is looking for a manufacturer/maker of knobs (like the one shown below).
FYI - Rob Fayette has already been contacted. He is no longer producing them.
Any help, guidance or leads would be appreciated.

eBay-macs-auto-parts has knobs like that (albeit yellow) search the name for store0
-
If need be, that knob would not be very difficult to turn on the lathe.0
