Heidi Hetzer Miami - new thread

Seems that the 1930 Hudson's electrics gave out in the evening. It broke down but the police were able to assist thankfully as the location wasn't the best place to be stranded it seems

  • Are all these issues she is having caused by all the miles and strain that have been put on rebuilt/restored components since she started the tour, or did she start out with an old used car?
I'm not trying to be judgmental, I'm just curious...haven't had time to read all the logs and Websites about her adventure.

The vehicle was prepped in Germany for this trip with several updates like racing front seats and a roll cage.  I think the electrics are 12 volt with an alternator, and the headlights are sealed beams or halogen.  Actually, I believe the car was restored by the previous owners, but of course that would be more cosmetic than mechanical (who knew it would be driven around the world by a subsequent owner?). The alternator last broke in Uzbekistan or somewhere in that direction, so this is not the original Hudson electrics petering out.  Heidi does not baby this car, it's earned its keep!

I just read that Hudo has traveled 113000+ miles so far.  As most cars of that era are worn out with half that mileage, the old boy ain't doing too bad
  • Hudo is now in a shipping container ready for Peru leaving 10th dec.
will be interesting how the car performs in the Andes
