Spare Tire Plate
I have two questions on the spare tire plate, or whatever you call that thing that sits on the spare tire on the early step-downs - the ones where the spare tire lays flat.
First, what is the right way to mount it? There are four holes but they don't come anywhere close to matching anything else. Do you just sort of pick one and line it up with one of the lug holes in the spare or is there some trick?
Second, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be black, but high gloss? Satin?
Thanks.

Chris , those plates were used up to the 1950 model year. The way it works is that you try to line up the cutout part of the plate with the air valve on the tire. It's a weird match but you only need to get one bolt to go through a hole in the plate, through the lug bolt hole and to the mounting bracket. The color was a black lacquer semi gloss.0

Does anyone have a picture? Is the tire upside-down or not?Thanks0

Here's how mine looks.
Since there's a cutout for the valve, I assume that the tire goes outside up.
I don't think I'd be able to hook up the inflator otherwise.
