Valve Tappet Adjustment

The Mech.Procedure Manual for 480-490 states setting the 8 cylinder hot intake .006" and exhaust .008" but the 48-49 Supplement page 13 states setting them at .008" and .010" as per a recent engineering release for both 6 and 8 engines.
Does anyone know why this increase was given for the 480-490 over previous years?
Being a hot setting would a cold setting be .002" more making it .010" and .012"?

    i dont know their reason for the change but suspect found premature wear with tighter setting. Regardless, Ive always set Tappets slightly looser then Factory Spec, especially Exh.

    Does that theory only apply to exhaust valves, or does it include intakes as well?

         In the 20,000 trip miles that my 232 engine has been driven in the last couple of years, I have had to adjust the exhaust valves twice.  Some of them lost all their clearance and were remaining slightly open, causing a loss of power.  The clearance of the intake valves did not change.  When I made the last adjustment, I followed Walt's advice and set the exhaust valves at 16 thousandths.

    Adjusting the valves is on my list of things to do this winter.
    So adjustment roughly every 10,000 miles is about right for a well driven car?

    Does the type of valve material change the setting,ex stainless,stock?
