Vehicle registration

At some point I was able to go to the HET Club website and find the history of my car (previous owners etc.) using the VIN number.  I can't remember now how I did that.  What has my senile mind forgotten?

  • I'm watching here.  If there is a way I'd like to research mine, also...k

Hi  Guys,  Go to the club home page.  At the top are menu options. Click on MEMBER. When that page opens the search options will be on the left side of the page.

Hope this helps.  Info will be there ONLY if previous owners have registered the car with its serial number.
Many people choose to list the car but not list the serial #.  Very frustrating

I went to the HET website and logged in.  When I tried to find vehicle information I was denied access.  It wouldn't even let me look up my own information.  It listed six or seven reasons as to why it didn't work, but I have no clue as to what category of denial I belong to.
  • Ha!  I went over there, mucked around with it for a while, giving it more information about myself than anyone should know, then got bored with going nowhere.  In the meantime, Amy kept calling me to go to dinner, which sounded like a much better offer, so I gave up.  Lol...k

It sure would be nice if someone would fix the problem.

It seems to be working but maybe I'm doing something wrong!

I went to the HET page (where I am registered as a webpage member) and on the MEMBER drop-down at the top.

Then under that, I clicked FIND A CLUB VEHICLE, one of the options listed at the left side of the screen.

In the form that then opened up, I typed my car year, make, model and body style.and clicked SEARCH.

I then was presented with a list of four cars, including their serial numbers, that fit the criteria I'd typed in.  One of them was mine.

The list did not reveal the owners, or location of any of the cars.  Nor did it give any information about past owners. But then, never in the 44 years I've been in the Club (and owned the car) have I ever input this information.  And I'm fairly sure that the previous owner (who lived in Denmark) had ever supplied information.  So, no surprise there.

I would ask those who have experienced difficulties with the system:  was this the procedure you used, or was there perhaps a different way to get this info?  Are you sure you were signed in to the website when you attempted this?

    Keith & Jason,

Let me know what issues you experienced in terms of "denial" reasons.

Also it helps as well if you could post in the HET club Forum just to keep the thread open across there.

As Jon says in his post you can search for cars.

It's not pretty I have to admit but it does work.

At the moment I am doing work in the background to try and enhance that user experience but as with most things life tends to get in the way so my progress is slow.

    Lee,

Some of what I am looking to do will be , I hope, of interest to you.

In the meantime give me some more details on what the issues are and I'll either fix them or point you in the right direction

    Jason,

So your car vin is 11xxx8. If you go to the Member page as Jon says and select "Find a vehicle" , enter that VIN in the "Body Serial Number" field up it pops.

I have you showing as having logged in on the 17th December at around 22.25

    Keith,

Your car vin is 1xxx4. Exactly as I did for Jason I did for you and up it pops.

I have you showing as having logged in on the 18th December at 01:46

Note the login times might be skewed towards my timezone of course!

I don't any issues being recorded with either of you in the logs I have available to look at so as I said let me know what was being shown as the reason(s)m for denial and we'll get it sorted

Works fine now after following your instructions Jon.  Thank you.

Now I hope everyone that has not sent in their vehicle serial number to the Club registrar will do so.  Please double check in your copy of H.E.T. Roster to see if your serial number is listed below your name.  I thought my s/n was listed  but it was not,  because I failed to provide s/n.  So then I did phone in s/n for both Hornet and PU and also s/n's for 2 PU's I sold and who I sold them to.

And for those of you that have sold your car please let the registrar know new owns information and to have the car and serial number remove from your listing.  You would be surprised how many cars are listed under 2,3,4 and even 5 different owners names.  So then who is current owner. DA, I DON'T KNOW.

I know for sure well over 200 s/n's are not listed for Commercial vehicles alone.  Pehaps well over 1000 serial numbers may be missing from entire HET ROSTER.

Okay Lee ; here's a little factoid for you. In the current database we have 14,451 vehicles listed. Now there some duplications there of course where cars have changed hands (as you alluded to above) but out of those 14,451 we have 5,379 where the body serial number is either empty or null so around 37%

I could give a more precise count and identify where cars have multiple entries and will try to do that but at the moment I'm stuck working on something else which oddly enough means I'm digging into the roster

Thanks for the update Paul,  I was way off at guesting 1000 missing s/n. Would I be close saying the duplications are about 20% +?

Hard to say precisely at the moment Lee but I'll do a little bit of number crunching over the weekend and bore you with some statistics :)

Some of the cars do have 4 - 5 owners listed against them and others only have the current owner

What I can do is isolate which is the most current off the cars listed which will then give me a figure to work off

I tried using the website again and this is the message that i got:

You may not be able to visit this page because of:

    1. an out-of-date bookmark/favourite
    2. a search engine that has an out-of-date listing for this site
    3. mistyped address
    4. you have no access to this page
    5. The requested resource was not found.
    6. An error has occurred while processing your request.
I was looking for info on a 1949 Hudson coupe that I'm thinking about buying.  I did not put 11 in front of the body serial number.  Could that be the problem?

Hi Jason , that error suggests that you have a copy of the page stored away that is pointing to a wrong script entry so you will need to clear your cache down. By that I mean delete your history and try again. Hopefully that will fix it

Not putting an 11 in won't affect anything in terms of the search other than it may not find what you are looking for.

There are two ways to add your car to the registry for its particular year / model / body style.

First, when you join or renew membership to the H-E-T, you add the car information to the application and it's automatically added to the main registry and any pertinent separate registries.  If you're not in the Club simply contact the specific registry keeper and give him/her your info.

The 1952 Hudson registry keeper is Robert Iozia (in New Hampshire). XXXAhudsonman@aol.com
