Well, when I saw that, I wondered how knowledgeable the appraisers were. 1946-47 cars are a world apart when it comes to value v. the stepdowns. The 48-49 models were Milestone cars and top of the line. 1950 to 52 models were always 10% or so less valued then the Hornets.  And, yes, how many changed hands. That is the basis of appraisals. However, in reality, the prices of most collector cars are down. I hope that no members plan on restoring  a car of this era and intend to make a profit. MO  of course, but we have a couple of appraisers in our club. A few months ago one of 'em gave a talk at our monthly meeting regarding the hobby.

Rather interesting. The source was Hagerty,.  So I went to their valuation tool and checked the trend on a few Comm.  I checked the 52 and it only listed the 6 cyl models....and their value was flat since 2013,  I checked 1951 and guess what, the value was again flat.  So, I guess the reporting was a bit off...go figure!

The initial valuation seems way too knee-jerk.   Hard to tell what real data it was based on (if any).  The insurance companies know that the owners are in this for the long run and we're probably not likely to change any demands on what claims may occur based on the up and down whims of the wheeler-dealers...k

I went to NADA yesterday. I sought the value of the 1951 Commodore 8 vs a Hornet from 1953 and a 47 Commodore 8 and a 52 Commodore 8. The 53 Hornet in TOP retail condition was valued at $38,200. The 52 Commie = $31,600. The 51 Commie = $31,625 With Hydro only $25K with standard trans. Go figure? The 47 Commodore was valued at $32,700. All of these are club coupes. I figure that the movie Cars put the Hornet on "the  map" so to speak, even if 51s & 52s were pretty much the same cars except engines cid. NOW, try and get those prices is another story. I find, that being relative to price , Nada is over optimistic by 15-20 percent. But it's a start. Happy New Year.
