1920's Essex Truck not really off topic

Can anyone help me with the history of the Essex truck?

My husband stumbled upon what is suppose to be a 1920's Essex truck, he said it also had an emblem on it he believed to be a Pegasus.

Did Essex build trucks or could this have been modified into a truck?

Hudson did not build Essex trucks in the 1920's, at least not in production (i.e., for sale).  However The Hudson/Essex plant did have a few Essex that they modified to use as trucks (within the assembly/manufacturing plant).  These usually never saw 'the light of day' (scrapped/destroyed when no longer needed), so it is unlikely your husband's truck was actually made by Hudson.

Many 1920's Essex automobiles were modified for hauling, utility, etc., either by individuals or by dealers (for a similar service as were those done by Hudson at their plant - hauling/utility).  Some were even made into tow trucks...

More likely, what your husband has is a car/sedan, modified at some point for hauling, utility, work.

In 1929 Hudson began manufacturing a 'Dover' line (one year only - I believe).

In 1933 (according to the *Butler book), Hudson began manufacturing a commercial series (to include pickup trucks) under the Essex brand name).  When the Essex name was dropped, the commercial series was tagged as part of the Terraplane brand name - which stuck around thru 1938.  In 1939, the commercial series (along with everything else) became just plain 'Hudson'...

If you or your husband have an interest, you might want to look around, pick-up a book written by Don Butler, 'The History of Hudson', printed by Crestline...

Have sent you a PM (Private Message) - send pictures of the truck, and I'll see they get posted...

Thank you Geoff - I didn't read far enough into Butler's book.  It actually states info on the Pegasus trademark symbol on the first page of the 1929 year listings.  The internet wasn't very helpful - had nothing on this (at least nothing that was obvious with a few searches).

If that is a Dover, it is a very, very rare truck!

Does this resemble the Pegasus on your truck's radiator?

Hi,     My Dad owned a Dover for about 15 years.  We did a "amateur home" restoration. Was a conversation starter.  Sold it to a club member in the U.K..   Would be glad to answer questions, or copy literature if
    desired.
Try a google search for 1929 Essex Pick up, or Dover truck.  There are several pictures on the Inteernet.
