How to work on your Supermatic - Drivemaster

I found this the other day and wanted to share it with others that may have a desire to get their Drivemaster/Supermatic working.  When I got my 50C8 back in 1985 I had grand plans to make eveything work that was on the car, as it was a true garage find.  it had Supermatic Drive and I was intrigued with the Rube Goldberg affair.  I got started on getting the car all "restored" although it only had 32,000 original miles on it.  Anyway, back in the day there were a lot of old timers in the club and I wrote letters to some of them, and often they wrote back. One of those guys was George Schmidt from WI, but very near to Chicago.  George from what I understand was very Hudson knowledgeable and for some time wrote a tech column in the WTN.  George at one time was also the tech advisor for Drivemaster.  I have below the letter George wrote (typed) to me.  Sadly, the car did not get on the road for another 20 years and in that time George passed away so I never got to get the Supermatic working, but it is still on the car and I am determined to make it work, maybe this summer as I now have found George's pointers on what to do.  (I really miss those old guys!!!)

Good old George!  I carried on a correspondence with him for many years and saved all of the letters he sent me.  I never met him but understand he was quite a character.

I miss the "old guys" too, the ones I encountered in the Club over the years, starting when I was 25 years old.  Now I look in the mirror and realize, to my chagrin, that I too am now one of the old guys.  Only, I can offer nowhere near the amount of valuable knowledge that they passed on to me.
