Triple Edmunds Ever see one?

I was visiting with Bill Albright one summer a few years back and he was getting a Hudson ready to take to the race track that weekend.  He had just finished adjusting the carbs and it was a three carb manifold set up he had in the car.  Not sure if Jason remembers it but I would guess that he did, he was working there at the time.

The manifold that Bill had was made by Rudy Bennett and the Boze in EP

  • would that bolt up to a 262 and/or a 308 with a stock exhaust?
  • all good points, thanks Ken.  I'm accustomed to the pains of multi carb setups. I've modified Model A motors and motorcycles for multi-carb setups and yes, they seem to require endless fine tuning. The Edmunds intake is awesome from a historical speed parts perspective but your observations speak to its practicality.  Given the opening bid amount that could be a pricey conversation piece but the cool factor is definitely there.

Glen Johnson in Utah has (or had a few years ago) the Edmunds Racing triple that I had on my Hornet powered '47 back in the fifties.  Got it from a Hudson dealer in Columbia City, Indiana.  They had run it on a dealer sponsored race car.

    FYI

That Triple is a rare piece and must have came with the single to 2bbl adapters. The Edmunds polish up real nice for show and a great nostalgic piece but the dual intakes never flowed like a stock Twin H. In fact i never seen one on a modified racer back in the day. I did see a lot of home made Log Manifiolds on winning Hornets...

The guys who were running that manifold on their race car were using single carbs of some sort.  I didn't see what they were.  The adapters were my doing.  Warshawski was selling chrome plated Stromberg 97s pretty cheap, so I got three of those, the adapters and the chrome "bonnets" from them.  Had to fabricate the headers myself . . .  quite a project for a neophyte welder!
  • Park,

    Driveway valve job?

I may have been installing the Edmunds head on the 308 engine. The car had a 262 when I bought it.  Got the low mileage Hornet engine from a buddy after we put a '53 Caddy in his Hornet coupe.  This was in '55.
  • Park,

      That's a great shot!

Wish I had some like that from my youth...

    You have a good memory.
I blew up your picture and there are valves in front of the car on the driveway, and a head leaning against the shed.

The photo I wish I'd have taken was when we hauled the Caddy engine and Hydramatic 200 miles in the trunk of the Hornet coupe it was going into!  Had to remove the trunk lid to drop it in there.  Needless to say, the tail was hanging a bit low.
  • This is, neat. I've just brought a finned triple carb manifold for my 29 hot rod, but that's running a GM Holden six engine, so this is cool to see. It'd make a great piece on a Hudson display engine. First pic, the Edmunds one, second my Holden on, with Strombergs.
