Does anyone know anything about or have any memorabilia from Martin Koons Hudson Delership in Taneytown MD,? The historical society there is reopening the house and dealership building as their Meseum and have not been able to find any real info about it. So, any help will be appreciated.

Lewis, is that the same Koons family that has a bunch of dealerships in the greater  Washington/Baltimore area?

Martin Koons was in business from the 1920s thru the  1950s.

If you have an address please post so I may update my files.

  • All of the dealerships I knew about in the DC metro area  were owned by indivuals   I remember that a lot of dealers were gas station/garages, body shops and not just dealers only..

Lance, nope, NOthing to do with those guys. Martins dealership[ continued through the end of Hudson, then went to a competitor. He then became just an independent repair shop. To call the dealershiip "large" would be a great overstatement.  It was a wood garage behind his house,  It had 2 oversized bays on each end of the building with a center small office.  I have haven't measured the building but I don't think it is more than 60x26 feet.  He moved into this building in the late 20's from another building a block down the road which he rented.  That building became the local ford dealer.  We were given a photo of the first dealership[ from the family of the ford dealership.  That building is still standing also.

I'm glad Jon found the receipt.  So far, we haven't found any lit or paperwork from the dealership. The museum does have eh purchase and sales ledger through 47,  My 49 came from there so we assume there was a later ledger covering the later Hudson years.

Another interesting thing is the ledger contains all the purchases from Hudson.  They used the Washington DC zone office rather then the one in Baltimore even though Baltimore was closer and had an outlet within 20 miles of Taneytown.

So, things are moving on with finding out things about the dealership.  But anything you can add would be great.

The g=Grand Opening of the Museum will be in April.  In addition we are having a Hudson show this summer (details are still being worked out)

It will be interesting to see what all can be uncovered.

    Thanks

    Lew
