when decking the block how much do you go  i want about 9.0 or a little less comp. im useing a 262 head thats 1.965 thick on 55 308 flat top pistions .030

    Do not deck a block with out the ability to identify it is out of tolerance. Checking for deck flatness must be done from a common reference point. This measurement is done from the crank main bearing saddles. Then you will know for sure if the deck is out and how much. Hudson wide block engines are usually pretty level. A recent chat with a machine shop owner indicated .002 to .003 front to back were max variance on three recent wide block Hudson checks. All checks were done with a computer controlled machine.

    You can pop them out .010 safely.
