Glad to be a owner of a 1935 Terraplane

Recently found a 1935 Terraplane 2dr just sitting there. We all know the rest! To nice a car not to put back on the road. She will go nicely with the 1939 Harley Serve Car I restored for my wife.  Glad to be a member & looking forward to a great ride in a great car.

Welcome aboard! You have some work to do there but what a lovely car you'll end with!

Good to have you as a part of the Hudson family; I'm sure you'll find a wealth of information here.

You may also want to visit the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club website, and consider joining that Club - Members come for the cars, and stick around because of the great folks there!

We hope you enjoy your time here at the Hudson Essex Terraplane 'Open Forum'

You came to the right spot. The folks here and at the HET club website are very knowledgeable and will be a great help.

Where did you find your car and what part of the country are you in?

    Good luck----------

Chickasha is a huge deal.  Bring cars and parts to SELL  Then you will have cash to buy.   Other vendors will bring Hudson related if they know there are Hudson BUYERS attending.   ASK for what you need so they know to get it out or to bring it next year.  Or they can ship it to you from home.

  •   I found the front bumper at the swap meet. It was laying on the ground and he did not know what it was for. My good fortune. Could of haggled but the price was cheep enough. I was just glad to find one so fast and cheep. Swap meet was mostly for Ford some Chevy , Buick several Hudson part's but not a lot of stuff. Still a good swap meet. I did get the 35 Home late last night. Took a better look at her while loading motor turns over and all wheels turn too. LOL

Thanks for all the help to all. Now all the fun begins.

                Thanks again Leon

    Leon,

I'm glad to see that the motor can turn.  However you should be careful about trying to start it.  If it has not run for a long time, it may have a lot of sludge in the oil pan or elsewhere in the system that could cause trouble in this splash-lubricated system.  It is even possible that the oil pump has become dry, and will not prime itself (the oil pump is located outside of the engine, and can be checked on easily.

Since the oil pans are easy to remove,  ( there is an upper pan in addition to the usual pan), it would be good to remove them both.

When you replace the oil pans make sure that you fill the dipper grooves in the upper pan before you fit it. Its fiddly and potentially messy but absolutely essential.

When you refill the sump through the oil filler all the oil goes straight into the bottom sump, none of it flows into the upper pan. If you start the engine, by the time the oil pump fills the dipper grooves you will have run a bearing.
  • Going to the Pate swap meet this weekend
  • My apology farmermike for not replying to you. I found the car in Euffaula Oklahoma. About 1 mile from where my mom lives. I live in Cresson Texas on the hill by where the Pate swap meet was held. I am looking fwd to the restoration ahead. She is ruff but savable about 98% there. Been ebaying and found the obvious parts that are missing. I know there will be more to find too! My great grandson is 10 and loves helping out on the car's can't wait for summer to get here, this will make his summer great. I will keep post on the progress as I go along. Taking her apart now  to get started on all the fun we will have.

  • Leon,

No need to apologize. I just think it is great that you are restoring a 35T two door sedan. I live in Idaho and my car came out of Kansas. After searching for two years I found it on Craig's list no less. It is amazing that these cars survived the great depression, the dust bowl, and world war II.

I know I said it before but it bears repeating, If you need a part or advice the guys in the HET club are simply invaluable. Also, the WTN publication has been very informative.
