Gearbox questions 1934 to 1940

A friend has a broken tooth on his first gear. We have several gboxes and noticed that in one box the splined shaft that it slides on has only a few splines and another shaft that is longer that has more splines. Any one know why? Is this the difference between a box for a 6 and an 8 cyl. What are all the differences? We have a Motors Auto Repair Manual that gives a good description of the box, but doesnt comment on 6 or 8s. Help also reqd re the second gear. Ive whitemetalled the brg. This brg holds in an end thrust washer. Ive used black nylon material in my gear. What thickness is the washer? Appreciate some comments. Thanks

The mainshaft and the low/reverse gear were changed in '34, again in '35, again in '36, and finally again in '38. Parts book doesn't say what the changes were. You're probably aware the the '36-'40 gearboxes will interchange as a unit, even though there are internal differences.0

Barry, I have lots of NOS gearbox gears to suit most models. You will have to supply me with a sample or a part number to make sure you get the right part.Right here in good old Australia.
