Stepdown distributor part numbers

Hey all
What do you all use for rotors and caps, and vacuum advances? My 51 Hornet has the IAT 4009A distriubtor, but nothing at all on the cap or rotor except "Made in Mexico". I suspect the vac advcance is shot as the car runs and times out the same with the vacuum connected or not.  Any thoughts? II did a cursory google search and got confusing results.

You can fit a Chrysler, Studebaker, Packard, etc vacuum unit as they bolt straight on to your distributor, but as Ken says, watch out for the marking on the arm.  I recently replaced the vacuum unit on my Jet with a Willys one, which was marked 10.  To allow for the difference (Jet is 7.5), I measured the distance  between the step in the arm and the body, and sweated on  a length of   steel so that it was the same distance as the  original one.   Measure with a right-angle round feeler gauge.

Is there a list of the advance amounts for the various Hudson models that have vacuum advance units? Also, does modern gasoline make a somewhat different amount of advance better for a particular engine?
