Welcome back, and welcome to the forum!
  • Owner of a 48 Hudson Commodore, I am a HET club member from out in California.  I have attended several of the International Meets (Spokane, Colorado Springs, Reno, OK City, and San Francisco).  Have had a specific ongoing problem with my vehicle and, now that I am retired I intend to resolve it...with your help.

The question I have involves the Voltage Regulator. One old post on this site ('53 Hornet) talks at length about the generator and voltage regulator having to match, and issues that may occur if the incorrect REG is used with a particular GEN.  The conversation dealt with only the '53 but I am wondering if the same specific requirements apply to a 1948 as well?  My car's problem is AMP light coming on when I decelerate or engage clutch to downshift.

Welcome, Brookhaven!  However, you deserve your own "discussion", why not post it separately?  Unfortunately you have stuck your message on as a "reply" to doug55's message, so many people will not see it.

I'm sure you'll get a good answer to your question, and, yes, you must have them correctly matched.  Your shop manual or parts manual will tell you the correct AutoLite numbers for each.  I have a feeling, though, that your problem may not necessarily lie in a mismatch, but maybe something else.  (For example, the regulator needs replacement, or the generator needs rebuilding.  Or maybe your idle is too low.  Others who are more knowledgeable will surely know.)
