Marvel "V" preservation

After many years of collecting parts for a Marvel "V" carb I have a complete carb. I am not ready to start a restoration of the '29 Essex so my question is there any way to help preserve the Marvel carb from any further deterioration of the pot metal?

Spray it with penetrating oil and seal it in a plastic bag so it does not dry out.  Oxygen kills these.
  • Thanks Geoff. I'll put it in a vacuum sealed bag that should help keep the oxygen away from it. When I'm ready to put it to use is there something I can spray or paint on it to help seal it?

Nothing that I know of that will not dissolve in gasoline.   A good spray with CRC each time you put the car away should help though.  The problem is they can deteriorate from inside or outside.  You should keep your eye out for a '27 Buick or Hudson carb, with brass bowl, these are everlasting and can be adapted to the '28 and '29 Hudsons.

When you say "can be adapted to the '28 and '29 Hudsons.", does that also apply to my '29 Essex?  What is "CRC"? Also are the '27 Buick or Hudson carb, with brass bowl, Marvel carbs?

    J. no the Essex is different.  The Buick and '27 Hudson use Marvel, and are brass bowls, and will fit the '28 without any mods, and the '29 with a slight alteration to the high speed needle actuating link.
