Advice needed: installing front wheel grease seal
It's a holiday weekend so when I realized I needed a front grease seal, I contacted a nearby Hudson friend. He obliged, with a pair of NOS seals.
However, the seals seem a hard. Close inspection seems to indicate they're either tightly-packed felt, or the suede side of leather. Seems like they ought to be a bit more pliable. Any suggestions for making them so (soak in oil, for example?). Or am I foolish to install old NOS seals?

Surely someone makes an elastomer late seal. I even buy those for my 1931 Franklin ??? All you need is inside, outside and thickness.

Jon,
If you seen a seal leak seals grease may have went onto your lining. If so, use CRC Brakeleen or similar then rinse.
I suggest clean & repack your wheel brgs while apart then soak & install your NOS Seals without concern since wheel bearing Grease is thicker then chassis lube..
