LUCAS ELECTRIC SYSTEM
Geoff once said that smoke was built into them and when the smoke escapes.,. it stops working. I was drinking a cup of coffee at the time and it hurts when I expel it from my nose,!! I was lucky to find this on another forum... A FIX!

Hey Dave , I think they put a new logo on that container. The old one used to say 'Lucas the Prince of Darkness"0

Well, I have had the same Austin Healey 3000 for 46 years and NEVER had a big problem with the electrics; replaced the voltage regulator once; still running the same generator, same instruments, same fuel pump, same ignition, even with Air Conditioning. 54,000 miles. Did install a geared starter so as to turn faster.
Currently has 92,000 employees; must have done something right; Hudson doesn't have that many employees !Other photos during a commercial shoot in June 2014

Yep I owned a 1974 v12 jag with Lucas - the switches all were On, Off and undecided - usually "undecided" won when trying to close the sun roof or Windows when parking. Always undecided when I was in a hurry. However I went to a club meeting last year which hosted a chap specializing in Lucas components. He said that there was two types of Lucas products - the better produced parts are in dark green early boxes and poorer made parts later in lighter boxes. Seemed that Lucas went down the path of Cheap and nasty when they listened to the accountants more than the technical specialists - I have a friend who visits Vietnam and try's to find an copied item so poorly made it fails to work. He brought back matches which the sticks broke attempting to light them, plus plastic coffee cups which melted when warm water was poured into them - cheers ken0

You have a beautiful Austin Healy Richard. Those photos brought back some fond memories as a 7th grader when In 1966 Dad came home with a 54 Austin Healey slightly modified with lovers in bonnet and side exhaust pipe. Mom bought me a English style cap to wear whenever Dad would take me for a ride. Cruising with the top down, setting low to the road, hearing the engine winding up as dad shifted through the gears were thrilling experinces. I loved that car and was disappointed when eventually it was sold. I hope yours is a keeper. Lee0

modified with lovers in bonnet Makes me smile! That's one way round the size of the cockpit.0 -
Thanks Dave I got a good laugh at seeing my error in bright red letters. I showed your comment to my wife for 46 years, she was a third grade teacher, she smiled and politely told me how to spell louvers.0
