Carburetor Rebuild tips?

Novice mechanic here, about to attempt my first ever carb rebuild of a Carter 2115S (WGD). I got a quality rebuild kit from Wildricks, a bucket of cleaner to soak the pieces into, some compressed air to blow out the tight spaces, and various literature - old and new - to hopefully guide me.
Any "old timer" advice for me?!

This old-timer would add a pair of 300x magnifying glasses. Lol.0

Check the metering rods for wear, set float level match the corn gas, if the carb has been run with corn fuel, carefully check for "hard white colored deposits in the passages and jets. Good luck0

Hand it over to someone who knows what they're doing. You dont' want to burn the car up...0

Thank you for the tips! I was actually surprised at how clean the carb was inside, considering my uncle said it hadn't been serviced in 8-10 years! I mainly wanted to replace the accelerator pump, because the car was hesitating badly from a stop. Well, surprisingly, everything worked out, and the car runs much better now. The hesitation is history. I was sure that I was going to mess SOMETHING up!Next up: installing a new modern thermostat mod and coolant, and a new heavy duty sway bar...0

Congrats to you... HET owners are usually able to service/repair most parts of their vehicle.0

As you may know, we have shop manuals online, and they will probably have a section on rebuilding carbs.
Frankly, after 40 years of fooling around, trying to rebuild my carbs, and ending up stalled in the middle of intersections and unable to start the car on hot summer's days, I threw in the towel and send my carb down to Daytona in Florida. Cost me a pretty penny but the carb worked flawlessly thereafter, and it looked brand new when they returned it!

Speaking of carbs and float settings. I had my carb done by Walt M. A few years back and it has function flawlessly since. I assume he set the float for 10% ethanol. Here in New York I can now get ethanol free hi test which I'd like to use. Question is will the float need to be reset for the ethanol free fuel? Tom0

I've used my ultrasonic cleaner and my Caswell kit to replate many parts. The process is pretty easy and the results (after practice) are great. It's been a lot of fun replating my cad parts with the copycad (zinc) kit. I've also used their parkerizing kit and it works well too. They have great tech support and very helpful forum members. If you pursue a sonic cleaner, and plan to use on cast aluminum carbs, the choice of solution is critical. You may also consider using a diffusing plate to further protect the metal if you get a high powered machine.0

Scott, Ken:I'm wondering if the Caswell plating system would benefit a Marvel "V" pot metal carb??????regardsJ Lombard0

No, Ken, I never heard back. I did , however, get enough parts to build a complete Marvel V & with advise from forum members I coated it with WD-40 & put it in a ziplock bag 'til I'm ready to use it. Thanks for asking.regardsJ0
