You might want to give a bit more information. Is it now a six, or an eight? Are you sticking with the original 212 cid or switching to another engine?

My car has a 308 with a standard overdrive transmission. I'd like to go with an automatic0

With a 308, you have already moved the radiator as far forward as you can. That limits your space. I don't think a HydraMatic of Hudson vintage would fit.. maybe someone has done it??0

I don't think a fifties Hydramatic is any longer than an overdrive tranny, but the floor pan may have to be modified a bit to accommodate the bulkier Hydramatic.0

I have seen adds for adapters to put GM automatics on 308 Hudson engines. I think Wilcap makes them.0

A beefed up 2004R is smaller than a lot of OD trans and would probably fit better than say a 700R4. If you are going to jump to an auto then go with an OD trans.0
