Steering Column Adjustments - '53 Hornet

Hello, Hudson Brain Trust.

I don't see any way, but I wanted to ask if the steering column/wheel of the stepdowns are adjustable in any way. Even with the seat adjusted as far back as possible, the steering column is a little tight for my stepson. At 15 and already a little over 6', I'm afraid he's not through growing yet.  =)

Thanks!
shane

Its a long time since I've looked, but I think there are 2 sets of mounting holes for a step-down front seat.

I am one of those fellows whose belly outsized the adjustments Hudson built into the front seat. I added a floor mounted extension which is a 1/4" plate steel with holes to bolt it to the floor at rear seat mounting holes. The plate is drilled to allow the seat to be moved back and tailor it's location to clear my belly.
  • Thanks, guys. I moved the front seat all the way back with the adjustments and the 2nd set of bolt holes. The steering column itself is non-adjustable though, correct?

    thanks,

Short of physically altering it, the steering column is not adjustable.

Well, now the plot thickens.  Turns out that there are instructions for moving the steering wheel up or down on my 36 Terraplane. In the repair and tune-up manual, are the following instructions.  There is room on the pre-stepdowns to move the steering box up by drilling new holes in the frame to clear stepdown eights and big sixes as well.
