Gentlemen,
I posted this question on the other forum but I thought I would post it here also.
I want to get a rebuilt carburetor for my 35 Terraplane that has the 212 six. I called Kantter auto products and gave them the numbers off of the tag that is on the carb. and they say it doesn't match with any of their Carter carb numbers.
Could you look at the tag in the photo and tell me what it might be? I thought it was a W-1 Carter but now??????

If there is another place to get rebuilt carbs. please let me know. I looked in the WTN and did not see anyone listing rebuilt 30's Terraplane carbs. for sale.
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks,
Mike

You could order a Daytona rebuild kit from Paul Schuster in Pittsburgh, and have a local carb rebuilder do the job for you - probably for a lot less than Kanter's prices. You local rebuilder would think the W-1 would be a "Piece of Cake" job compared to the later carbs he is used to working on,.

Mike I sent my to Walt M in CA a few years back. On the bottom of the mounting flange was stamped 311S same as the tag on yours. I'm don't know this to be fact but have heard the stamping/tag number relates to the model car the carb was intended to be used on. Anyway my has worked great ever since Walt rebuilt it. Tom0

Thanks guys, I may have to go the rebuild kit route. In looking over my carb. there is some severe wear in some of the linkage. Some of that will need to be repaired and they do not come with any of the kits that I have found so far. That is why I was looking for a complete rebuild. You can see by the photos that the carb. looks like it has just been rebuilt. The previous owner told me he had just rebuilt it shortly before selling me the car. The car has just been having a loss of power and while it starts and idles great, it is a dog going up any hill. The plugs load up with black soot (dry) fast which tells me the fuel is rich and when I removed the dust cover I saw that the accelerating pump was not even hooked up. Fixed that but the car still is doggy. Not sure what the previous owner did to the carb. but he used silicone on all the gaskets which I am not a fan of.I will definitely get a rebuild kit from Paul S. if I cannot find one already rebuilt. Tom, who is Walt M?Mike0

Mike - Walt Mordenti, 45 Skyview Way, San Francisco CA 94131-1248. You will find his ads in the WTN most every issue. Walt is an oldtime Hudson Resource when it comes to making these cars tick correctly, and as I understand it does a super job on carb rebuilds exactly the way they should be. Walt's Telephone is
