A warning to all to inspect the points wire in your distributor for any insulation damage as we experienced an engine cutout caused by the wire grounding out.
After close inspection with a flash light I could see the damage after getting towed home.
This could happen at anytime or anyplace so check it out and repair it before it leaves you on the side of the road.

I'm confused (as usual). The wire inside of the distributor is a ground wire to provide reliable grounding to the moveable breaker plate. If it touches any grounded item, it makes no difference. If that wire touches any part of the moveable side of the points ass'y, it will short that out.

Are you talking about the external wire that attaches to the insulated pass-through stud? There are no other internal wires.

I don't know what you are saying about no other wires inside.
If the wire to the points grounds out you have no spark.

A very common occurence, especially with the IAT dist. Exploded a muffler on the way to Daytona beach in 1965.  This was in my 1949 Commodore with fresh Hornet engine,  should have checked the dist. more closely!  Elect. tape repair got us there and return although was a bit loud.

Ooops! I stand corrected. There is no internal wire in the distributors for the splasher sixes. I guess I've been hanging around those for too long.

Drivertogo: eBay has them occasionally, BUT if you take the jumper and strip off the bad insulation cut off each end and solder a replacement wire between. I do this as a matter of tune up on each distributor.
