Can Anyone ID the year of my Hudson?

Hello people, this is my first post. I just picked up what the last owner said was a 1927-29, I'm thinking its a 1930-31. It's had the rear doors removed and then shortened, but can anyone positively identify the year and style, (Essex, Super Six etc..)? Thank you.

  • Looks like 31 Essex, def not 27 to 29, but the rear section I'm not sure. It doesn't belong with the front.

That had me stumped too, the main cab looks to be original paint and it's all solid metal, and then there is that patina rear section with what looks like the same trim lines and the same roof type. But obviously not from the same car. I've studied pictures galore and can't match up that rear window to any year. Thanks kiwijeff. I'll go with a '31.

Don't take it wrong, but it looks like a mess. Looks like they tried to make a 5 window. Unless the back is cut to make it look right it never will. Lots of surgery.

I'm not sure what your ultimate plan is, here.  If it's street rodding, for instance, I'd say "go to town", someone has already started the project for you and the only limit is your imagination and wallet contents.

But if you had restoration in mind, I would pause and think long and hard about the road ahead.  You can obtain a very solid restoration candidate in much better shape than this, for not a lot of money.  If you start with this one, you will sink a whole lot of money and time into just bringing the body back (no matter what make it proves to be), and that's before you get to the paint, upholstery, chrome plating and drive train.  When you are finished, unless this proves to be a Duesenberg, you will not recover your costs, though you may have a lot of fun.

You may already realize this.  I only offer this advice if you happen to be new at this game!

  • Thanks everyone, I'm taking no offence to any comments, I welcome them all. I'm new to street rodding but not cars that's for sure. Haha, I know it looks pretty messy right now, and herein lies the drive. I love an automotive challenge. My intent is to rat rod it, no restoration, no numbers correct etc....I've got considerable mechanical and fabrication skills so I'm gonna go for it. I'll post updates in the future, let's see how this goes.
  • I've found out what this thing is. It's a 1931 Sudebaker Model 53. So, wrong forum, wrong site. Cheers everyone!
