Gas sealant

John, go to a hardware store, Ace etc. Get a product called Seal-All, for gas and oil. It comes in a tube like tooth paste.0

Permatex item # 80632 might do it. It's a thread sealer but I've used it in gasket applications too. It has PTFE which is gasoline resistent.0

Leaks at the sending unit historically have been two things for me. 1. The pickup tube is swedged into the sending unit. Pressure on the tube can move it. Once the tube moves it will leak. 2. The fastener threads that hold the sending unit to the tank can strip or strip the treads in the tank. Item one - my fix is liquid steel on the in side and outside of the sender around the tube. Item two - I discard original screws. Replacement screws with socket head type with new lock washers. Each screws threads are then coated with Indian Head sealant before being used to secure the sender to the tank. Good luck0

The pickup tube is indeed separate from the sending unit... The mount uses the swedge at the non soldered part of the bracket. As noted solder repair can be accomplished. The use of a sealant At that joint helps assure fuel seal. Check my website for pictures and instructions for sealing the tank sender and pickup tubes. http://hudsonrestoration1948-54.com/index.html0
