shift selector lever

looking for some help on my father's 48 commodore.  does anyone have a picture of where the spring is attached on the shift selector on the transmission.  I can't seem to find any info on this.  Maybe a pic of an assembled tranny would help.  Thank you.

Michael, there's no spring at that end of the cable.  It's part of the apparatus at the other end, i.e., at the bottom of the steering column.  Sorry I don't have a good picture . . . maybe someone can post one.

Michael, welcome to the Open Forum.  With luck, someone here can give you the exact answer you need.  I don't know if a Hudson shop manual would help you -- do you have one?

The HET Club website has a lot of technical literature (like shop manuals, factory updates, etc.) on its on-line library.  Registration (at the website) is free to Club members, so I urge you to register there if you're already a member of the HET, in order to download these materials.

If you are not a member of the Club, you may register at the website (for free, for a "limited" website registration) but you have limited privileges there.  I don't know if use of the on-line library is among those privileges.

Thanks, Farmer.  So, Michael, the spring is item K21-17, at the bottom of the shift column.  The thing that looks like a spring at the transmission end of the cable is a bellows-type dust cover for the cable.

    Thank's "old farmer"
This is Fred, Michael's father.  I think I'm good to go.
We just installed a "new" Al Saferin transmission and over drive I purchased from Chuck Gleydura last week after a guy I trusted to put in a new clutch locked up the overdrive and destroyed the pinion gears. I had taken picture of "before" and proceeded to lose my phone/ camera.
I still have two short springs that I don't have a clue where they go but when something doesn't work we will figure it out.
