1955 hudson 308 engine differences with the 1954 hudson 308

Same length as '51-54 blocks. If it has Twin-H, the intake manifold has a narrowed balance tube. There is greater valve relief machined into the '55-56 block.
If it is seized, you would be starting with a big negative that is very likely going to cost you extra money during the rebuilding process.

I believe the crankshaft is a different length , the difference is in the area after the last main bearing. If I remember correctly , it's shorter. Hudson supplied a spacer at one time to use these in earlier cars.I installed a 56 308 in a 52 Hornet coupe , using the 56 trans also ( hydra). I had to make rear motor mounts , but all else worked0

Lostmind is onto it that's what I was told so I will need a spacer on end of crank to fit to my auto So the bell housing bolt pattern must be the same ?? The 55 engine has been rebuilt so I just want to sling it in to get it on the road as original 308 is seized and needs a full rebuild $$$$ .Was going to install a 350 chev but I would rather go with the original setup problem is I am in Australia and parts are non existent !0

This 262 is a lot closer to Aus in NZ & at $NZ1350 it may be able to be landed for a resonable cost. Its been for sale for a while now, so the seller may negotiate.
This is not my engine & I don't know anything more than the auction states.

There are many of the later 6s installed in step-downs, the adapter that you need for the end of your crankshaft is readily available, someone on here will point you in the right direction. You may need to do something with the input shaft bush in the end of the crank. The sump and oil pick up tube from the step-down engine will need to be swapped over to.Someone in the Australian Hudson community will take your old 308 if you don't want to hang on to it, dead or alive they are getting scarcer. Do you belong to one of the Oz Hudson clubs? If not they will be a source of useful advice.I'm in Laidley Qld if that's anywhere near you. bobwardDOTlaidleyATgmailDOTcom0
