'53 Hornet Door Latching Question

Question for the Hudson Brain Trust: =)
The driver's side door on our hornet is loose and will not stay latched when any pressure at all is applied to the door. I've tried realigning the latch, and I've exchanged it with several spares that I have to no avail. It appears the pin that pivots up to engage the door latch on the B-pillar is loose and is causing the problem. I've disassembled the door to remove the latch mechanism, but have hit a snag. As you all may know, the window guide must be removed in order to remove the latching mechanism. When I refer to by Body Maintenance Manual, the door illustrated and the door I have do not match up. So I'm asking for advise in removing the window and guide in order to remove the latch. I've attached photos of the Manual diagram and the door that I have to work with. Any advise you have is welcome!

Thanks in advance!

  • Doc, I did apply a light coat of lubricant to the latch pin and the catch. But it didn't seem to help at all. Since the latch mechanism is internal to the door, can it be greased without removing the entire mechanism?
