Title Help

I just picked up a 49 Commodore Convertible that was last on the road in 1955. The owners family couldn't find a title so they gave me a bill of sale. Colorado is impossible to deal with even after jumping through all of the hoops. Anyone have a title for a 48-49 Vert (I know...long shot)? I could probably work with a title that says 2 door, coupe or brougham. I have called a few of the usual suspects with not much luck other than a title for a 57 Hudson Convertible (must have been a Metro). It was in a garage until a few months ago, and it started right up after changing out fluids, fuel pump, water pump and carb. I also needed to put in a "new" gas tank.
It was painted green for some reason early in its life but was originally red. Looks like they did it with a broom LOL.

Thanks
Don

    Hmmmm...

Could you "sell" it to a cousin or friend living in a neighboring state that's more title-friendly, have them obtain a title for it, then have them "sell" it back to you (complete with its new title, of course!).

How times have changed.  I liberated a '50 Studebaker from a junkyard back in '68 (naturally it had no title) in Indiana, and all that was necessary to do, was to have a State Policeman come and take a rubbing from the car's serial number plate. Then I got my title.

    Good luck.
  • Don, You may want to try to use Broadway title.   Some states don't recognize their titles but many do. If not then get a surety bond from Hagerty and work with your local DMV. ( a pain no matter what state)

Just curious.. Is it a 6 or 8 ? Have you connected with the Convertible registry keeper,  Dave Sollon?

Since I have a 49 8 Conv. and also had one back in the 60's. I would personally be interested in the vin number if you wouldn't mind emailing me HETdwad1939@att.net.

    Thanks, Dave

Work with your mechanic and see if he can give you a bill of sale to obtain one that way . Some states will take the bill of sale .

the simplest and certain result is to contact jim jennings the title guy in nashville tenn. google his website for all the info and instructions. he also will talk with you on the phone if necessary. i used his service within the last year for a lost title on a 57 vw bug. cost was $300 and a tennessee title arrived approximately six weeks later. as per washington requirements i had to wait 90 days from date of title issuance to transfer to a washington title. dmv processed and i had a good washington title for the vehicle. i have a friend who has used this for a model a and porsches. no problems. save yourself the time and hassle of the state police inspection process. i would use this again in a heartbeat
