New Member - saved a 46 from crusher

Hi, my name is Al, I live in Canada, the province of Saskatchewan (above Montana & Nor Dakota). I just saved  what I believe to be a 1946 or 47 Hudson Super Six 4 door sedan, from being crushed for scrap. I am not able to restore it & want to sell it to a home in the USA where I am guessing there would be the most interest for the car.  I would like some advice/suggestions where/how to market the car.  This is not a miracle barn find - the car is in pretty tough shape having been out in the Canadian elements for a ? while - but it is pretty much all there, including the powertrain. There will be lots of considerations I know given its location & all but my intention is to sell the unit & that it be saved & used by someone.  Any direction would be appreciated. Al  S.

  • Al,

We appreciate your efforts to keep another Hudson alive. A few photos might help inspire someone to take you up on your offer. If not a practical restoration candidate, it could well serve as a donor for someone else's project. There's always something good on any Hudson!

Thanks for saving it, Allan!  As Frank said, it may be that the car's too far gone to restore, but its parts may help another Hudson to survive.

Actually, there are quite a few Hudson owners in Canada, so the car might not have to travel far to find its next owner.  What part of Sask. are you located in (it's a big place!)?  North, east, south, west?  Nearest big city?  Assuming the body is "iffy", then maybe you could take some photos of the engine itself.  Does it have just plain 3-speed transmission, or does it have an overdrive?  (O.D. makes it worth more.)  An overdrive-equipped car would have a chrome knob sticking out under the dashboard, on either the left or right side of the steering column.  It's maybe 1-1/2" in diameter and has two or three concentric rings stamped into it.  Radio and heater (providing they are the original Hudson accessories, and not aftermarket) also lend value to a car.
  • Hi guys - I am in Saskatoon (central part of prov) & have prof trailed the car from pretty far north to Saskatoon.  Closest USA centers of any significance for border crossings are Plentywood Mont or Minot ND  - crossings of Regway & Portal respectively.  The body is rel good shape for time - although dents in trunk lid & pass frt door & pass front fender there are no rust holes. Floor is another matter. Dash is rel intact but so darn dirty dusty etc as windows were bust out. Wheels are combo of 14" & 15" so not stock of course & have learned  about the mounting or alignment pin - just like on my Volvos, have 3 hubcaps -lol  hood is straight but lacking ornament & chrome etc  - so is pretty tough all round. Will check into the OD  gear leaver. I want to sell it into Statside & wud, if that was required, deliver it to one of the 2 border crossings. My question is where to list it for sale - through the national club or other club or Craigslist or?? . And yes will be taking lots of pics.  thanks for comments so far.  Al

Allan, it would be good to list it in the White Triangle News.  If you are not in the Club you can do that with the sponsorship of a member such as myself, at no charge.  They may even print your photo.  You would have to list the price in the ad, though. The deadlines for ads are the first of Dec., Feb., April, June, Aug. and Oct. The approximate publication dates are the 15th of the month following the deadline. You will have to wait longer for your ad to appear (than here at the forum) but it will be read by about 2800 hard-bitten Hudson enthusiasts.  (I doubt we have quite that much readership here at the forum.)

You can reach me at xxxdetailed@verizon.net if you want to put an ad in the WTN, delete the xxx before sending.

Out of curiosity Al, how much are you asking for the car?

I am located in British Columbia, Canada.

Hi Al. Would you be kind enough to supply some pictures, and perhaps your reason for wanting to sell in the US, instead of selling locally? I'm assuming this isn't a scam, even though some of your wording, tripped my scam radar. It would be great to see someone here end up buying, and saving another Hudson.

Oh, some of my wording sounded scammish? Curious what I said that conveyed that. i assure you it ain't no scam. I have the car, have gotten it on rolling rubber & is parked at my bud's place 7 waiting for me to get on with it - pics & more description & deciding how/where to list etc.  My thinking is that the market would be bigger stateside than in Canada - although anywhere is a possibility.  The car is tough but relatively complete. In my opinion it would be classed as a parts car, But when see some stuff that has been rescued it could easily be the basis for a rebuild - the issue, as always is $ to do so.
