How can I adjust my 1946 Hudson Commodore shifter so it will go into reverse and 1st gear, my Hudson has a 1948 262 six and transmission.

Sounds like your cable isn't shifting the tranny to the Reverse Low position.  Make sure it isn't broken.  it comes out the bottom of the steering column and there is an adjustment there, and it needs to operate the short lever at the top rear of the tranny..

I am having the same problem with my 48 Comm. 8. I know there is a clip down there and a bracket on the shaft but how to adjust it eludes me. A little more description might help. Thanks!
  • Loosen the bolt on the clip at the bottom, have someone pull up on the shifter while in neutral and then I believe you push up on the clip to tighten the slack and tighten the bolt.
