Rebuilding a straight eight and need help!
I rebuilding a 38 straight eight motor the main journals was rusted and after I clean it I can see that they are rust pitted. How much can I grind down the journals to get a good surface and just take of shim or do I need new main bearings? or just leave it like it is? And the rod journals are oval within 0,001" should I just grind it as little as possible. Any Ideés anyone?

I would polish it and leave as is, personally. Rod journals within .001 is fine. You have nothing to lose by trying it as is. If it works, you have saved a heap. if it doesn't, well, you would have to bite the bullet and spend the drachmas!Geoff0

I agree. Al long as you polish the outies off, the innies will just help retain oil..within reason of course.0

I almost had my outie polished off once but, fortunately I was quick enough to step back.

I think we may be talking about a different "outie" unless you have a deep dark secret.
