Engine Code Help

Just wondering if someone can clue me in on the engine block codes. I was mostly curious because this is not the original engine to the car (which we still do have at my uncle's house).
I've researched it a bit myself, and it seems that 310111 indicates a 1954 308, and CWC is the name of the foundry.
What does the 2 below CWC mean?
What does the "clock face" at the bottom left mean? The arrow is pointing to a 4.
Where do I find the date code?! I would have thought it would have been right next to these numbers. If its on the head, well, that won't tell me much, because it's a 262 head someone put on the 308 for more compression.
Thanks!

I just noticed when I blew up the photo on my PC that there looks like there is some kind of code at the top of the pic, being blocked by the distributor, so that might answer one of my questions! LOL...0

Alright, the "hidden" code is K253, which I think would mean that the block was cast on November 25th, 1953, correct? And this would still be considered a 1954 engine, right? The serial number in my car indicates that it was made in October 1954, so this engine would be nearly a year older, but same model year...0
