I have a couple of 212s that need rebuilding. Problem with those, the distributor is on the top in the back so you'd need to cut the firewall. However, I know of a 35 that needs rebuilding near here. It would have the distributor at rear 5 o'clock like yours. There are some Terraplane parts cars in the club. They would fit. Post need on the HET forum also.0

I have a '39 175 cu in in my workshop (engine only, no trans or flywheel) - pulled by the owner of a '39 Hudson utility coupe some time ago. He was modifying the coupe to do 'period racing' and wedged-in a 308 Twin H into his car (I have since seen the car for sale on Ebay). I was actually picking-up other parts he was selling, and was offered the engine ($$). You learn very quickly to 'get it while you can' - as these parts are scarce, and may not 'come around' again...
Engine is complete, including air cleaner - other than checking to see that it turns over (it does), pretty-much it is as it was when acquired.
I am located in Maryland, and I do not have any plans to use this engine with any project.. **Note: I also have a ’39 Hudson 112 pickup truck project (see avatar).

I'm in central Pa. A guy approached me recently about purchasing a couple of engines that have been laying around the farm for many years. from what he described, they may be early 212's. if you're interested enough to want to purchase if they are, I could go have a look to see what they are. email me at HETarminard@Comcast.net. Drop het of course.0

fleenstra,
The chances of locating a good, reliable pre-40 engine are pretty slim and most candidates would likely require a rebuild anyway. Shipping one across the country would just be an additional cost to the project.
So......keep looking, but I suspect that an overhaul of your existing engine is in order. If it is still running as it was when I saw you at Orting, it is a doable project and the truck is worth the $/effort, in my opinion. If you are desirous of a 212, the 175 can be made into one with a donor 212 from as late as '47 (yup, I know about the cam gear!).
A little knocking adds character!......but sometimes characters are unwelcome.
