I can get you a pic of one on a 62 Jeep.  Must be about the same thing.

On a 56 chevy stepside the plate with the studs has four braces going to the sheetmetal side  (1 goes through the wheel well with a grommet to not connect to the wheel well).  The bottom two line up with the angle that holds the wood board bed so they are stiffened by this angle.  The forward one connects very close to the front bed corner.  The rear upper one goes through the wheel well and the bolt goes through into an angle iron piece the is bolted to the bed side. The sheet metal bed side is reinforced by the angle which is hidden in the wheel well.

Sorry no picture sold that truck in 1990.  Waiting for the 36 hudson.

  • Sure is. Loads of fun. Every time I drive it I'm always amazed at how well it handles and drives.

    Hello,

Here are a couple photos of how a spare was mounted on the side of the bed on my 1947 Hudson.  I don't think I have a photo of how it was braced on the inside, but it is very solid with no movement.  I will try to get a photo of the inner bracing.  The fender has been somewhat crudely modified for the spare installation.

    Take care,

    Steve Bryson
  • Do you have the original under bed spare tire carrier? I need one.
