Oil for 1936 Terraplane

Hope this is not opening Pandora's box!

I am putting the oil pans back on the 1936 Terraplane...Last time I used Royal Purple something or another...can't remember...any suggestions for viscosity...30W or 15W 40 or ? 

ps..car is in Florida. Thanks for all suggestions.

Has engine been rebuilt?  If so a good running-in oil 30 weight, or if not, then any good multigrade, like Castrol GTX 20W-50

My 1936 is running on shell rimula diesel oil since the early 1980's. The car was formally our club secretary Phil Haxby. It's a nice heavy oil and it's been fine the past 30 years. I also have just water in the radiator mixed with metal cutting oil which makes the water look like milk. Yep I try to keep the oil in the water low to stop the glug buildup but again it's been in the system 30 years and still no rust - cheers Ken

I would certainly never use an SAE 30 motor oil in a splasher engine.  I always use 15W40 Diesel OIL because of the extra zink content.
