1939 6-Cyl. Engine & Overdrive For Sale, Delaware

This 6-cyl is advertised as a '39 but has the distributor on top so is maybe '40-47.  spotted it on Craigslist.
It's for sale in Harrington, Delaware. https://delaware.craigslist.org/pts/6015539389.html   They say it's running, and want $950 for it. Talk to "Donald" at 302 531 5725.

    Definitely not '40.  Would have to be a good purchase, particularly with the o/d

    It's a 40-46 because the distributor is on the rear top.  Why do you think it's not a 40, Geoff

    It could have come out of an earlier car that originally had an engine with side-mount distributor. Hudson sold a kit for dealers to put a later engine w/rear distributor into earlier cars. The kit included a sheet metal pan that the dealer installed in an opening they would cut in the firewall.  The pan had a depression in it to clear the distributor.

    But why would the engine not be a 1940?  (The OD could be from a later Hudson,  added at some time in the past.)

    40 was the last of the "small" transmission  , which had a one year only overdrive.  
    Would have to change support in order to install the newer trans.  Plate very hard to change unless clutch and flywheel removed first. If going this far should switch to the 10 inch clutch.  Just a lot of work  !!  .

    Ric has answered the question.   The transmission and o/d is '41-'47 version.
