having trouble adjusting carby on 25 Essex stewart carby I dismantled carby to clean and cannot get motor to run smoothly I feel the adjustment in measuring needle is not correct I have been using the measuring of 1 sixteenth plus air cone just touching the seat and new gaskets but still no joy could some one please advise thanks ray

Ray, the dashpot piston must be free in the bore. Do not use sandpaper or abrasive to clean the bore. What I do is remove the lever from the mixture control shaft, and turn the shaft until you get the engine running right, then fit the arm back in the mid point to give you the adjustment range you need. The shaft is splined, and has a slot in the end, so you can turn it with a screwdriver. these carburetors a re pretty well bullet proof, and once they are set up you never have to touch them. There is a very fine gauze in the bottom, and this should be checked that it is not blocked up.
