My 1925 Husdon starts up fine and runs good but when I push the choke in all the way it dies. it seems to be getting too much fuel and leaking out of the exhaust just under the front seats. does anyone know how to fix this ?

Welcome to the Forum!
Fuel is leaking out of the exhaust? Or smoke? If smoke, isn't it just a crack or hole in the pipe?
If it's running fine, how do you know it's getting too much fuel?

Have you examined it closely to see if perhaps the fuel isn't dripping down from (for example) the intake manifold onto the exhaust pipe (dangerous condition!)? It's hard to imagine that the fuel is getting through the cylinders un-burned, thence working its way through the exhaust. But hang in there, sooner or later one the owners of an "older" Hudson will jump in here, and might have the answer.

The original fuel system is very simple on these cars. I suggest you start at the vacuum tank, and follow the single copper pipe to the updraught carby. The club also has a technical adviser for 1925 Hudsons. Good luck Barry0

its pumping too fuel into the cylinders and the excess fuel is coming out of the exhaust manifold. is there a way to regulate how much fuel is pumped into the engine ?

What do you mean when you say " pumped"
origanly there is no fuel pump on these cars.0 -
Is too rich and lots of the fuel isn't being used and it's coming out of the exhaust manifold0

there is a mixture control screw. it must be smoking real bad? Are you sure it s fuel, and not oil?

Where abouts should the screw be like how much tread should be showing on each side ?0

There is a knurled screw which adjusts the height of the needle and sets the mixture. it should be about halfway between the limits. Do you not have a handbook?

No I don't have one I've looked but can't find one0

Send me an email and I'll scan a pic of the carburetor showing the relevant details.
NZgeoffclark@xtra.co.nz Leave the NZ off the address, that's to fool the auto-scammers.

Here are a couple pages on the Internet about Hudson carbs of your era. Actually, they appear to be sequential pages from some sort of shop manual:

for carb parts here are two companies, and I am sure there are others. Try your search engine.

The H-E-T website library appears to contain a short instruction book on the 1924-26 Hudson carbs which were (I believe) manufactured by Stewart. If you're an HET member, do take advantage of your privilege to register at the site and take downloads from their technical and sales library of vintage manuals and catalogs.
Here is a past discussion on those pesky floats: http://www.hetclub.org/forum/discussion/110553/28-essex-carb-float
Here's a post by a fellow, back in 2009, who had found someone who could make a new float for a Stewart carb. These carbs were used in other makes, like Dodge, but I'll bet a lot of the internal parts were interchangeable. You might try to contact him to see if the fellow he knows about, is still making floats. http://openforum.hetclub.org/discussion/112475/stewart-model-25-carburetor
