Wheel

Is the wheel on the jet and stepdowns the same? I think that maybe the widths are different. If the widths are different can a stepdown wheel be still used on a jet
Thanks

The centres are the same but the stepdown wheels are wider.
  • John, Geoff is correct. If you need to get another wheel and can't find a jet  wheel try an early fifties Plymouth. They have the same pattern as Hudson and are narrower. They will work on a Jet.

Mopar and Ford also have the same 4.5 in. pattern. The McCauley Jet had magnum 500 rims on it. I acquired a set recently and done a test fit. They worked and did not have to cut the centering pin off. Hope this helps.

Just one point though, the '54 Jet wheels (not sure about '53) had two small projections either side of the valve hole, which located the full circle hub caps.  If you use these caps on wheels without these projections they may tend to turn, and perhaps damage the valve stem.
