Hi, can any one tell me what should go behind the distributor on the block? It appears to be a breather for the crack case but all that is there is a slit and no breather/ filter or anything of the sort. Is this correct?

    Sounds right. Just the tappet covers which have a breather slit with a slight lip at the top of the slit.
